Siesta Beach Wins 2015 TripAdvisor Travelers' Choice Award

The Sarasota area has yet another accolade to add to its collection thanks to TripAdvisor's Travelers' Choice Awards. Siesta Beach was voted the best beach in the U.S.!

The user-review travel site used rankings from millions of online reviews and ratings left on last year. Taking into account both the quantity and quality of the reviews, TripAdvisor came up with a list of the top 25 beaches in the U.S., and a second list featuring the top 25 beaches in the world.

Siesta Beach came in at #1 on the first list and was the only beach in the United States to appear on the second list, coming it at #14. Keep reading to find out more about what makes Siesta Beach so amazing!

Soft, Sugar-like Sand

Siesta Beach has some of the finest and whitest sand in the entire world. Unlike most beaches whose sand is primarily made up of coral fragments, Siesta Beach's sand composition is 99% quartz. Not only does this mean that the sand is ultra-soft, but thanks to its reflective properties, it also means that the sand is always cool on the feet, even on those especially hot and sunny Sarasota days.

While Siesta Beach is naturally beautiful, it's also extremely well-maintained. Sarasota County Parks & Recreation, as well as numerous volunteers, comb the beach daily to ensure it's always in pristine condition. Thanks to such efforts, Siesta Beach is designated as a National Healthy Beach and is certified by the Clean Beaches Council.

Fantastic Location & Amenities

Siesta Beach is located along the northwestern tip of Siesta Key in Sarasota, FL, overlooking the blue-green waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Its suburban location features fantastic amenities and services, including a variety of concession stands, tennis courts, playgrounds, picnic shelters and more. There's plenty of parking, and if you get there early enough in the day, you can take advantage of some free public parking spaces.

Family-Friendly Activities & Festivals

Thanks to its warm temperatures, Siesta Beach is the perfect place for a wide variety of water-related activities, like swimming and snorkeling. Its natural underwater formations and caves make the latter activity even more exciting and enjoyable. Siesta Beach is especially attractive for families with young children, as the waters are shallow, the waves gentle, and the entire area is under year-round lifeguard protection.

Siesta Beach also hosts numerous organized activities and events throughout the year, including beach volleyball, yoga, soccer, sand sculpture competitions, music festivals and plenty of others.

Siesta Beach Improvement Project

If all of that wasn't enough, Siesta Beach is currently undergoing a massive, $21 million improvement project. This project includes upgrades and expansions to all aspects of the beach, including parking, pedestrian access, recreational facilities, amenities and much more.
