4 Ways to Boost Your Home’s Curb Appeal

Given the amount of time homeowners spend inside their homes, it’s no surprise that most remodeling dollars end up indoors. But neglecting your home’s exterior can leave it looking tired and rundown. Here are four projects that will boost your home’s curb appeal and ensure that the outside of your home looks as good as the inside.

1. Liven Up Your Landscaping

If you’re ready to spruce up your landscaping, you’ll want to do so when the temperatures are relatively cool. While you’re planning your project, be sure to take a look at the grade surrounding your home. Over time, it can become compacted and slope toward your house. Poor grading causes water to flo...

NAR Brings Positive Changes to Tax Reform

WASHINGTON – Dec. 20, 2017 – Saying he takes "too many jabs at the National Association of Realtors® (NAR)" Brad Inman with Inman News admitted that NAR "does some things so damn well, like influencing the laws of the real estate land."

The tax reform effort touched on many facets of real estate, including things like the mortgage interest deduction, capital gains tax savings at the time of sale and the deductibility of state and local taxes. NAR also fought to retain net neutrality, which would give small brokers and agents equal footing on the internet with big advertising firms and mega-brokers.

"On both of these gnarly issues, NAR was in the middle of the raucous debate,...

Common Cleaning Myths & Mistake

1).Washing windows in the sun - Many of us will intentionally wait for the weather to get nice and sunny before we start washing our windows. But washing windows in direct sunlight will likely leave them streaky. Instead, try cleaning your windows when the weather is overcast, or later in the afternoon. If you are worried about how long they will take to dry, use a window squeegee, which will work faster.

2). Spraying surfaces with cleaning spray - This is another common mistake that most of us are guilty of making. When you spray your cleaning solution directly onto the surface, it can leave behind a grimy layer of residue. Instead, spray the solution onto a cloth and then wipe the surfac...

Will Self Driving Cars Disrupt Real Estate?

DETROIT, Mich. – Dec. 11, 2017 – Experts predict the advent of autonomous cars will radically change homes and towns alike. By 2021, major automakers, like Ford, Volvo and BMW, are planning to manufacture either fully autonomous vehicles or ones capable of navigating highways on their own. Some automakers are debuting systems even sooner.

Private vehicles that usher you to and from work without stop-and-go traffic may become the new way of life. You can work during your commute or even take a nap, since you'll no longer be the one in charge behind the wheel. As such, consumers may decide a longer commute is no longer that big a deal.

The lines of suburbia may be stretched farther f...

How to Pet Proof your Yard

A yard is a place where your family can enjoy the outdoors, soak up the sun and run free in the fresh air. While this includes any four-legged members of your family, you don’t want your beloved pets getting into your treasured garden area. A garden is a labor of love, and it’s important to protect it from a frisky feline or playful pup. Luckily, it’s easy to pet-proof your yard while still making it a fun, safe and exciting space for those special animals in your life.

Why You Need to SELL Before 2017 is Over

WASHINGTON – Dec. 1, 2017 – Some home sellers need a sale contract inked before the end of 2017 in order to avoid a big tax bill that would be imposed if the Congress' tax reform proposals become law: Both the House and Senate bills require sellers to have lived in their residence for a longer period of time before qualifying for the capital gains tax exclusion on the sale of a primary home. As proposed, owners must live in their house at least five years out of the last eight; currently, the requirement is two years out of the last five.

The Senate version of tax reform includes an exception for transactions in which a contract is written before Jan. 1, 2018, even if the closi...
